Anthony L. Aker, O.D. received his B.S. degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville in 1977 and his Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Tennessee in 1981. He is a member of the Bay County Optometric Society, Florida Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association. He began serving our community with Newberry Eye Clinic in 1981. He specializes in contact lenses, pediatric vision, and treatment of eye diseases. He is Board-certified. -
James E. Corry, O.D. graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1974 and did postdoctoral training at St. Luke’s Eye Institute in New Port Richey, Florida in 1974. He began serving our community with Newberry Optical in 1976. He specializes in contact lenses, senior eye disorders and ocular pathology. He is Board-certified and a member of the Bay County Optometric Society, Florida Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association. -
David J. Edinger, O.D. graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1977 with a degree in biology. He then graduated from Southern College of Optometry in Tennessee in 1981. He did his postdoctoral training at St. Luke’s Eye Institute, Wesley Jesson Research Contact Lens Clinic, and Pacific University Optometry School in 1981. He has been serving our community since his partnership with Newberry Eye Clinic in 1981. He specializes in difficult contact lens fittings, ocular disorders, eye diseases, and low vision. He is a member of the Bay County Optometric Society, Florida Optometric Association, and American Optometric Association. -
Bret L. Fisher, M.D., ophthalmologist and medical director, graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina in 1986 and did his residency from 1987-1990 at Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia. He belongs to the following professional societies: American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Bay County Medical Society, International Society for Refractive Surgery, American College of Eye Surgeons, and American Society for Cataract & Refractive Surgery. He specializes in no-stitch microincision cataract surgery and IOL implantation; laser vision correction; and the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma. He has been serving our community since he joined the Newberry practice in 1993. -
Paul E. Garland, M.D., Ophthalmologist, graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1981. After his internship at Tulane in 1982, he served as Second Lt. in the National Health Service Corps for 2 years. He then did his Ophthalmology residency from 1984-1987 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. He then completed a fellowship in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive surgery at University of Texas Hermann Eye Center in 1987-88. He is board-certified and specializes in No-shot, No-Stitch, microincision cataract surgery, as well as Oculoplastic surgery, both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. He is the only fellowship trained eye plastic surgeon in Bay County. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society for Cataract & Refractive Surgery, Florida Medical Association, and the Bay County Medical Society, to name a few. After practicing 14 years in Tallahassee and Colorado, he joined The Eye Center practice in 2002. -
Mark S. Jones, O.D. received his undergraduate degree from Columbus State University in Georgia in 1977 and graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham in 1988. He did his postdoctoral training at Jacksonville/Piedmont Eye Clinics in 1988 and was named in Who’s Who in American Colleges & Universities. He belongs to Bay County Optometric Society, Florida Optometric Association, American Optometric Association, and SECO. Dr. Jones began has been serving our community since he began practicing with Newberry Optical in 1988. He specializes in family eye health, contact lenses, and ocular pathology. He is board-certified. -
John J. Mallary, M.D. received his undergraduate degree from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa in 1962 and completed medical school at Marquette University School of Medicine in Wisconsin in 1966. Dr. Mallary completed his internship and residency in 1970 at Gorgas Hospital in Panama Canal Zone. He has been serving our community since he began practicing at Gulf Coast Eye Clinic in 1976. He specializes in general practice ophthalmology, laser surgery for secondary cataracts, medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases, and contact lens fittings. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and belongs to the following professional societies: American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, and Bay County Medical Society. -
Jeffrey R. Pyne, O.D., D.O. received his first Bachelor of Science in neurophysiology from Allegheny College in 1982. After graduation he enrolled in the Illinois College of Optometry and received a second bachelor of science in visual science in 1984, and a doctorate of optometry in 1986. He attended medical school at Midwestern University in Chicago, Illinois where he completed his internship at the Chicago Osteopathic Hospital in 1991 and subsequently completed his residency in medical and surgical ophthalmology at the Saint James Medical and Health Centers in 1994. Dr. Pyne completed his fellowship in retinal and vitreous surgery at the Retinal Institute in Saint Petersburg, Florida in 1995. He belongs to the following medical professional societies: American Medical Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Osteopathic Association, Bay County Medical Society, American College of Osteopathic Ophthalmologists, Head & Neck Surgeons. Dr. Pyne is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology. His specialties are numerous and include: Medical and surgical treatment of macular degeneration, medical and surgical treatment of diabetic eye disease, hypertension related to eye disease, and the treatment of glaucoma. He has been a member of the Eye Center physicians since 2003. -
Kelly A. Smith, O.D. received a B.S. degree in biology from Huntingdon College in Alabama and her doctor of optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is licensed in the states of Florida and Alabama. Dr. Smith practices primary family eye care. She is board-certified and a member of the American Optometric Association. She is also a captain in the US Air Force Reserves and practices optometry at Eglin Air Force Base in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She is the newest physician to the group, joining the practice in 2005.
